The University of California, Berkeley's combined art museum, film archive, and cinema, holding nearly 25,000 artworks and some 18,000 films and videos, including the largest collection of Japanese cinema outside Japan. Founded in 1963 following a gift from painter Hans Hofmann, with the film archive added in 1966, BAMPFA moved in 2016 into a converted 1939 Art Deco printing plant redesigned by Diller Scofidio + Renfro at 2155 Center Street in downtown Berkeley. Holdings range from Ming dynasty painting to Rosie Lee Tompkins's quilts.
