Founded by John Berggruen in 1970, this blue-chip gallery deals in postwar and contemporary American and European painting, sculpture, drawings and prints. Its program features historic figures such as Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud, Alexander Calder, Ellsworth Kelly and Henri Matisse alongside contemporary artists. After decades on Grant Avenue, the gallery moved in 2017 to a three-story, 10,000-square-foot building at 10 Hawthorne Street in SoMa, across from SFMOMA, where it continues an active exhibition schedule.
