Marley Freeman’s *worthless serpentine*, her fourth solo at Parker Gallery, presents abstract paintings whose title comes from Joan Didion’s Where I Was From—gold-bearing ore versus glittering worthless serpentine. Portals and layered passages of color sit between California’s personal and cultural histories of enchantment and disillusionment. Hand-mixed pigments and a textile-informed structure shape the canvases.
