Marley Freeman (b. 1981, Lynn, MA; lives between New York City and Massachusetts) builds paintings from hand-mixed gesso and layered unique pigments. Free-flowing abstract shapes approach but stop short of recognizable form; textile intimacy—warp and weft—informs her psychologically charged canvases. Collections include the Hammer, Hessel, LACMA, RISD Museum, San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Whitney.
