A self-described 'artivist'—artist and activist—graphic artist Orlando Smith uses pencil and paper to chronicle the senselessness of the criminal legal system and indict abuses of power. Incarcerated at San Quentin, Smith began drawing more than forty years ago, inspired by Marvel Comics, creating 783 original characters and nearly seventy graphic novels under his imprint Skullthuggery Comics before turning to illustrated journalism. At SFMOMA July 25, 2026–June 20, 2027.
