Through reliquary altars, found portraits, and assemblage, Canilao transforms a former Fort Mason military guard station into a space for remembrance and ancestral connection. Drawing on her family’s migration from the Philippines, she links the site’s history of U.S. military power in the Pacific to experiences of war, colonization, and displacement, exploring grief as an act of transformation.
