Manoucher Yektai’s *The Stranger and the Tree*, his first solo museum exhibition in the US, gathers some thirty paintings from four series made between 1948 and 1963. Early calligraphic abstractions give way to thickly impastoed still lifes, smeared portraits and lyrical fields of trees and flowers. Drawing on Persian rugs, Iranian flora and poetry, the show explores a transnational vision within the New York School.
