Lava Thomas’s *Lineage* traces her family history in post-Emancipation Texas through monumental graphite and Conté portraits and hand-drawn archival documents. Drawing from family photographs, legal records, and Black studio portraiture, Thomas places her ancestors at the center of the historical record, transforming acts of remembrance into assertions of dignity, agency, and permanence.
