Garuda in Bali brings together Balinese wooden sculptures and paintings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries to trace the epic of Garuda, the part-bird, part-man warrior who became Indonesia's national symbol. Centered on his quest to rescue his mother Winata by stealing the elixir of immortality, the works capture his loyalty and courage and his role as the vehicle of Vishnu.
