Matthew Phillips’s *Falling Tide Can Turn* is a solo exhibition of new abstract paintings by the Brooklyn-based artist. Built directly on canvas from transparent layers of pure pigment and silica, the works use soft geometry, pastel color, wave-like patterns and shallow horizons, with shapes that read as solid mass one moment and air the next. Phillips explores unstable perception, change and transformation.
