Kiwha Lee and Julia Kunin’s *Electromagnetic Signature* pairs Lee’s oil paintings with Kunin’s glazed ceramic sculptures. Lee builds translucent layers of hand-printed pattern, modeled on the perforated jali screen, so her canvases seem backlit; Kunin’s iridescent totems, cubes and switches merge body, machine and architecture. Together they explore pattern, surface and depth, and the charge between objects.

Kiwha Lee

Kiwha Lee is a painter whose oil paintings rethink the canvas as a porous screen rather than a window. Looking to the jali, a perforated architectural screen, and to Korean and Chinese pictorial traditions, she builds translucent layers of hand-printed pattern using reinvented Asian resist-printing techniques, so her paintings appear lit from behind and blur surface and depth.

Julia Kunin

Julia Kunin is a Brooklyn-based sculptor who also works frequently in Hungary. Her glazed ceramic sculptures, influenced by the decorative arts and Art Nouveau ceramics, explore queerness, feminism and the relationship between architecture and the body. She earned an MFA from Rutgers, received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2026 and was a Fulbright Scholar to Hungary in 2013.
