Wolfgang Paalen (1905, Vienna – 1959, Taxco, Mexico) was a painter and theorist who made major contributions to Surrealism in the 1930s, including his fumage technique, before co-founding the Dynaton movement in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1940s.
