Harkawik was founded by curator and artist Peter Harkawik, who organized his first exhibition in 2009, an institutional solo presentation of the late New Zealand filmmaker Darcy Lange. The gallery opened its first permanent space in Los Angeles in 2018 and its New York location in late 2020, where it has since presented more than 30 exhibitions. Harkawik represents 15 artists and is a member of NADA and Gallery Platform Los Angeles. The program runs on solo exhibitions and skews toward American artists across painting, sculpture, and photography.
