Fine arts museum in Golden Gate Park, founded in 1895 from the California Midwinter International Exposition and part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Rebuilt after earthquake damage, it reopened in 2005 in a landmark copper-clad building by Herzog & de Meuron with a 144-foot observation tower. Collections span American art from the 17th to 21st centuries, art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, and textiles and costume, complemented by major touring exhibitions. Located at 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive; open as of 2026.
