Zeng Fanzhi’s first New York show in over a decade pairs new paintings of imagined celestial landscapes with a blue onyx, obelisk-like sculpture. Layering unblended hues side by side with several brushes at once, he builds images that read as jagged terrain, water and black horizons from afar and dissolve into fields of pure pigment up close, weighing order against the unknown, time and memory.
