Wendell Castle: LIVING

*Wendell Castle: LIVING* reimagines the Scottsville, New York, home Castle shared with ceramist Nancy Jurs, based on a 1973 House Beautiful feature and curated by their daughter Alison Castle. Rarely seen furniture in carved wood and molded plastic and Jurs’ ceramics are staged as a kitchen, bedroom and living and dining rooms, alongside works from 1962 to 2017, showing art and home life as inseparable.

Wendell Castle

Wendell Castle (1932–2018) was an American sculptor and furniture maker born in Emporia, Kansas. He studied industrial design and sculpture at the University of Kansas before moving to Rochester, New York, to teach at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he kept a studio for nearly 60 years. Across six decades, his sculptural furniture in wood, plastic and other materials transformed American furniture design.
