Margaret Maclean, to hell and back, installation view, induction gallery, Los Angeles, 2026
Margaret Maclean’s "to hell and back" presents new oil paintings of figures caught between waking and dreaming. Bodies bleed into atmosphere, faces stay half-formed, and limbs stretch and double back, while familiar art-historical groupings—the mother and child, the ascending figure—are quoted and then unraveled. In the most abstract works the figure dissolves into color, exploring flesh, instability, identity, and sensation.
