Inspired by the eponymous sonnet written by Emma Lazarus (1849–1887) and famously inscribed inside the Statue of Liberty, the exhibition brings together 18 New York–based artists born 15 different countries outside the US. Since WWII, New York has been a tessering* for the creativity of artists arriving from all parts of the world, bringing with them their histories and artistic traditions, making New York what it is, the most vibrant and creative city in the world. This exhibition is a reification of this tradition, an effort to remain strong.
