ICA LA presents LONG LIVE BOOKS!, a salon-style installation of papercuts by Kate Laster with texts by Vivian Sming, founder of Sming Sming Books, in conjunction with the museum’s Bookshelf Residency. Transcribing Sming’s essay into hand-cut works drawing on punk stencils, papel picado, and Chinese papercut traditions, the installation frames reading, lending, and buying books as small acts of resistance against algorithmic control.
