Dan Levenson (b. 1972, New York) is a Los Angeles-based artist working in painting, sculpture, installation, performance and video. His work takes the form of artifacts rescued from the ruins of an imaginary school, the State Art Academy, Zürich (SKZ): metrically sized canvases divided geometrically into rational, reproducible abstractions, each titled with a unique name for a fictional student, shown alongside aged classroom furniture, lesson plans and games. Levenson has exhibited at the Hammer Museum, Vielmetter Los Angeles, Praz-Delavallade, James Fuentes, White Columns and the Philadelphia Art Alliance. He holds an MFA from the Royal College of Art, London, and a BA from Oberlin College, and has received a Pollock-Krasner grant and Yaddo and MacDowell fellowships.
