Nishiki Sugawara-Beda creates paintings using hand-made Sumi ink, crafted from the soot of burnt organic materials collected all over the world. Scale and Tonality debuts her new series, KuroKuroShiro+, which responds to Palo Duro Canyon in Texas and incorporates materials harvested there. In collaboration with composer Shoko Nagai, the exhibition pairs a sweeping six-panel painting with music, using tonality to guide viewers through the works as a monumental, multi-sensory experience.
