Sadie Barnette’s "How to Fly" is a site-specific photomural installed in the museum’s atrium. The Oakland-born artist combines photographs she has taken of places across California with pictures from her family archives, describing herself as a “keeper of the past” whose role is to tend the historical archive. The result layers landscape, memory and personal history at architectural scale.
