Grant Whipple's studio flooded. Rather than step back, he let the water in. Redwood Ripples at Amos Eno Gallery presents paintings made in the aftermath of intense winter storms, where torrents of watery pigment pool, disperse, and stain unstretched canvases hung from strips of local redwood. Rust, sediment, and accumulated residue collapse the boundary between image and material. Environmental forces become active collaborators. Surrender, here, is not defeat.
