ISLAA presents Marcia Schvartz: Power in Looking Back, surveying the Argentine artist’s portraits from the 1970s–1990s. Spanning paintings, pastels, photos, and archives, the works portray marginalized lives with raw intimacy, from exile to aging and labor. Created amid dictatorship and democracy’s return, Schvartz uses portraiture as testimony, confronting erasure and centering personal histories against authoritarian forces.
