People Make Art: A Tribute to Melvin Edwards

Alexander Gray Associates New York · Tribeca / SoHo

Exhibition on view: Sep 9, 2026 - Oct 24, 2026

*People Make Art: A Tribute to Melvin Edwards* brings together paintings, sculptures and works on paper from 1954 to 2024 by fifteen artists who knew the sculptor Melvin Edwards (1937–2026). Taking its title from his remark “Art doesn't make art, people make art,” the show traces one circle of friends, mentors and collaborators, exploring exchange, generosity and community as the conditions of his work.
