Zelda Cherner: Pentimento presents oil and charcoal paintings that hold the engineered line of the architect alongside the wandering hand of the gestural painter — a tension shaped by two generations of architects in her family and an eye trained on New York's layered surfaces. Cherner builds through alternation: ruled drawings give way to instinctive brushwork, biomorphic forms emerge from planes of high-value color, then pigment is rubbed to expose what lies beneath. Charcoal lines resurface; earlier decisions ghost through. Each canvas becomes its own pentimento — a record of what was made, unmade, and what remains.
