*The Supplemental Sublime* examines food as a site where pleasure, excess, anxiety, and ecological consequence converge. Drawing on the eighteenth-century concept of the sublime, Oiwa transforms donuts, meat, prepared foods, and candy into expansive visual environments whose seductive abundance gradually gives way to questions of consumption, addiction, and planetary cost. Informed by his experience across Brazil, Japan, and the United States, Oiwa approaches food as both autobiography and cultural identity, tracing how globalization has detached culinary traditions from their geographic origins. The exhibition situates his paintings within a transnational dialogue connecting Japanese, Asian, and American visual and cultural sensibilities.
