Matt Saunders works in the space where photography and painting refuse to stay separate. On an Overgrown Path is an exhibition of new works—camera-less photographs, plein air C-prints drawn on site, a two-channel animation—that embrace chance and contingency as materials in themselves. Oil resists water. Negatives are layered until images emerge. Inspired by Janáček piano compositions, the exhibition builds musical analogies alongside visual ones: suspension, passage, and the mutability of perception.
