Cyril Kuhn arrived in Los Angeles in 1997 to study film at CalArts after moving from San Francisco. Encounters with Ron Athey and Roger Herman, along with a family heritage in painting, drew him toward visual art. Guided by Derek Boshier, painting became central to his practice. Los Angeles provided fertile ground, from his involvement with the Chinatown collective c-level to exhibitions at Black Dragon Society and a decade of representation at Tom Jancar’s gallery.
