Zach Callahan’s *Los Angeles and the Abstract Truth*, titled after Oliver Nelson’s 1961 jazz album, photographs the city he has lived in for 13 years: class, infrastructure and life around cars on its working-class arteries. Callahan mixes documentary pictures with scenes he scripts for the camera, some staged in his studio parking lot, so that the line between observed and constructed stops mattering.
