The Whitney’s Juan Sánchez: States of Liberation is the first traveling retrospective of a founding Latinx voice—sixty-plus paintings, works on paper, photography, and video rooted in working-class Puerto Rican New York. Autobiography, community, nation, and utopia braid colonialism with resistance and spiritual tradition. Co-organized with The Phillips Collection and Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico; opens Fall 2027.
