Installation view, Transaction, Joshua Abelow & Katya Kirilloff, presented by Gene's Dispensary at Essex Flowers, New York, 2026. Photo: Garrett Carroll.
"Transaction", presented by Gene’s Dispensary at Essex Flowers, pairs Joshua Abelow and Katya Kirilloff in a single joint work: a table whose legs are stacks of 96 tightly wrapped Abelow oil paintings made between 2008 and 2026, topped by Kirilloff’s sad black unicorn of fabric, yarn and stuffing. Two small Abelow paintings hang nearby. The show considers exchange and collaboration, and transactions grounded in support.
