In With Drawing, JM Howey presents works that began as mechanical pencil depictions of New York’s fixed leisure infrastructure—Citi Bikes, scooters, community gardens—reimagined for subversive or convoluted uses. These speculative gestures question ownership and control. Returning to painting, Howey carries over graphite structures into loose color fields, using procedural limits to test agency and search for possibilities beyond preset systems.
