Installation view, Jillian Mayer: Placeholder Future, David Castillo, Miami, 2026
Jillian Mayer’s *Placeholder Future* is an environment of sculpture, furniture-like objects and video built from glass, aluminum and materials salvaged from a satellite company downsized as Starlink spread. A sheet of notebook paper is made of fused glass; an aluminum chair suggests a home in space. Drawing on Cuba’s Special Period, Mayer explores repair, reuse and how we adapt to technology that outpaces itself.
