Modernism presents *James HAYWARD: Works 1975–2013*, the first survey of the artist’s work following his passing. Spanning nearly four decades, the exhibition traces Hayward’s sustained investigation of monochrome painting, from the restrained *Automatic Paintings* of the 1970s to densely worked, gestural surfaces. Through color, gesture, pigment, and material accumulation, his paintings explore the tension between discipline, repetition, intuition, and variation.
