Marit Tinglejff: Into the Green presents monumental coil-built ceramic slabs marked with gestural applications of manganese, cobalt, chromium, and iron oxides — applied and selectively washed away to leave translucent stains and rivulets that accumulate into roiling, epistolary abstractions. The central work, Into the Green, Large Plate Rack, arranges twenty-four two-foot circular clay tablets against one another at over nine feet wide, transforming the domestic plate rack into a monumental landscape of dense vegetation rendered in umber, viridian, and charcoal. Rooted in the commonplace implements of domestic life, Tinglejff's ceramics hold the tension between delicacy and weight, labor and geology, order and entropy.
