A sweater hovers between being put on and taken off. A figure stands at the edge of a pool. In The Middle of Things presents new paintings by Adrian Kay Wong—contemplative scenes suspended in the literary tradition of in media res, caught between what has happened and what may come next. Drawing from East Asian garden design, Wong uses windows, shadows, and sightlines to slow the viewer down, proposing that emptiness is not an absence but a presence unto itself.
