Ulises Beisso (1958–1996) spent his brief career building otherworldly figures—fictional demigoddesses, semi-nude celestial bodies—that subverted social norms in Montevideo's art scene during and after Uruguay's military dictatorship. (Hidden) in Plain Sight marks his first US exhibition, focusing on his final work made after encountering Félix González-Torres and Ross Bleckner in New York. Thirty years after his death, the paintings feel urgent. The body is caught between visibility and disappearance.
