Hayami Gyoshu: A Retrospective (tentative title) at MOMAT will present about one hundred works by the early twentieth-century nihonga painter, known for minute detail and experimental composition. Diaries, letters, and research materials join paintings to trace how Gyoshu renewed Japanese painting between tradition and the avant-garde. Themes of craft precision, modern reform, and artist archives frame the planned.
