*Banner Series I* (2026), a restaging of Katalina Iturralde’s 2011 work, presents the phrase “Drama Tropical” as a meditation on the social and environmental conditions of life in Puerto Rico. Drawing on the island’s heat, climate events, and densely interconnected communities, Iturralde frames tropicality as both physical environment and social condition. The banner’s public-facing format and graffiti-inspired typography reference vernacular urban communication and the mass accessibility of telenovelas, transforming everyday experience into a shared visual and cultural narrative.
