This exhibition traces Black storytelling from stage to screen through rare posters from the 1870s to the 1940s. Often the only surviving evidence of influential productions and lost films, these materials reveal how Black performers, playwrights, composers, and filmmakers challenged racist stereotypes and created new ways to represent Black life, humanity, and experience for Black audiences.
