Emmett Palaima's "Test Bed" is a durational sound installation in the Pioneer Works garden, conceived during his residency there. A custom synthesis system generates a continuous drone tuned to harmonize with sounds already present outdoors, emitted from multiple sources that shift with the listener's position. Palaima treats sound as an object or landscape to explore, rather than a timed performance or recording.
