Edison Peñafiel: MARE MAGNVM, Chapter I of the Ecuadorian-born, Miami-based artist's two-part Tides and Passages, has its Miami premiere at Locust Projects. A 360-degree video surround shows a monochromatic sea where fourteen boats built from wood, oil drums and tires carry eighty-one masked figures in a perpetual thirty-minute loop, set to a score based on a Latin American lullaby, evoking migration across water, past and present.
