
Sulymenko builds her watercolor and gouache paintings in successive, half-visible passes, so each surface archives its own making, much like a memory forming. Her unnamed, vaguely familiar locations and the few figures in them hover in suspension, between one place and another. Instinctive and withholding, the work offers no resolution, only a quiet, lingering anxiety.
