David Kordansky Gallery presents Sam Gilliam: Constructions in Color, 1978–1981, an exhibition of small- and medium-scale works on paper that expand the space between painting and sculpture. Using watercolor, collage, and handmade paper, Gilliam explored folding, staining, and layering techniques that emphasized materiality and dimensionality. These works distill his restless reinvention, uniting color, form, and relief into luminous compositions that are at once intimate, monumental, and experimental.
