Clark Fox's *Beyond Obedience* surveys nearly six decades of work by the American painter, born in 1946. Emerging alongside Washington Color School artists such as Gene Davis and Sam Gilliam, Fox moved from abstraction to representation by 1970, later producing architectural, Pop and political paintings. The exhibition explores a practice that defies the boundaries between abstraction, Pop art and cultural critique.
