Julian Hoeber's fourth solo exhibition with Jessica Silverman explores stereoscopic vision and the brain's process of registering images through each eye. Featuring new paintings, a wall-mounted sculpture, and a video work presented with 3D glasses, the exhibition investigates visual perception as an active operation rather than a passive act. Inspired by the 19th-century stereoscope, Hoeber's paintings depict everyday surroundings as juxtaposed images that invite viewers to examine the complexity of seeing. Geometric patterns function as framing devices throughout the show, representing optical phosphenes—images the brain produces in the absence of external visual input. The exhibition celebrates the gaze as contemplative and encourages thoughtful engagement with our environment.
