Walter Wittel's "Before–After" gathers a small, focused group of works from the 1970s, made after he wandered into art as a UC Irvine undergraduate. Witty and self-mocking, the pieces fit what one historian calls the "casual" style of Southern California photo-conceptualism, shifting attention from the art object to the lifestyles around it. Wittel later left art for a long career in science.
