This exhibition draws from the American Academy of Arts and Letters collection, begun in 1915 as a repository of artistic and literary artifacts. Early contributions included items such as Mark Twain’s pipe and a Winslow Homer watercolor. Current members were invited to select objects—from manuscripts to sculptures—and write responses to them. Their choices reveal personal connections across generations, presenting the collection as a living dialogue between artists, writers, and history.
