Installation view, Antwoine Washington: Life Be Lifing, COL Gallery, San Francisco, 2026
Antwoine Washington’s *Life Be Lifing* takes its title from a phrase that is both shrug and testimony. His new paintings, built up in oil stick, acrylic and house paint into thick, ridged surfaces, depict family life, faith and memory, from river baptisms to figures leaning into one another. Made in a practice that became his rehabilitation after a 2018 stroke, the work weighs what it costs to keep going.
